Fashion, Function, Fusion: Dell Wasabi PZ31
Cuter than your average photo printer, the Dell Wasabi PZ31 is a handheld, on the go photo printer that uses Zink technology (paper embedded with coloured crystals instead of ink) to produce colour printer photos about half the size of standard photo prints. The Wasabi PZ31 works wirelessly with mobile phones and computers and takes memory cards.
- Beyond its other solid attributes, the Dell Wasabi PZ31 is simply a cool idea, representing the next generation of portability in printing.
- Similarly, its scratch and water-proof photo paper with an adhesive backing make it a out and about social printer, something not seen since the heyday of Polaroids.
Still, for many, the Wasabi PZ31 is too early to the technology party to be truly effective. Amongst its several pitfalls are:
- A very high print cost of nearly 50 cents per colour print page, although its lack of ink cartridges makes this much more palatable.
- A too small print size and related lack of clarity and quality especially compared to other Dell photo printers.
Dell Wasabi PZ31 Printing
It is difficult to judge the Wasabi PZ31 against competitors because it virtually has none. Still, its colour photo quality is not terrific, especially on the extra small photo paper it requires. Perhaps that is forgivable, given the Wasabi’s size and portability, but with cost per photo running close to 50 cents, this is probably more of a passing curiosity than an everyday colour printer.
