HP Photosmart C5380: The Smarter Choice For Photo Printing

The HP Photosmart C5380, akin to Star Wars’ C-3P0, means we have reached the golden age of technological advancement. Excellent print quality with good print speeds, it’s one of the first low-priced all-in-one’s to provide truly competitive print quality without much being sacrificed. A multifunction printer is nothing without its standard functions of scan and copy, and the C5380 boasts both. This photo printer also incorporates a 2.4-inch colour LCD display, a useful tool for those primed for photo printing. Unfortunately, however, the MFC does not come with fax or network capability (USB 2.0 is the only connectivity option). If that doesn’t throw you off, the all-in-one photo printer will definitely deliver what it’s tasked to do, a perfect installation for any home or small office. The only other problem is the scanning, although detail isn’t scarce at an optical resolution of 4800dpi, images sometimes appear under-saturated and paler than the source.

HP Photosmart C5380 Printing

The HP multifunction inkjet printer’s speed is very impressive. A draft quality text document will print at 20 pages per minute and slow down to 11ppm at normal quality. Graphical documents are only slightly slower, with draft quality documents printing at 18.75ppm and normal quality at 6.3ppm. When tested, this photo printer delivered a standard 4×6 inch photo in 27sec, and an A4 photo at normal quality in 1min 14sec. Whilst this isn’t the fastest all-in-one inkjet printer on the market, it’s still quite notable, especially considering it’s exceptional print quality.

Text documents are clear and readable, comparable in quality to similarly priced mono laser printers, colour documents with graphical elements are even better, and photos have fantastic, vibrant colours. The colour printer has up to 9600 x 2400-optimised dpi colour when printing from a computer on selected HP photo papers and 1200-input dpi. Unlike many mid-range inkjet colour printers commonly prone to banding issues, the C5380 produces a result of brilliant quality photos. With five high-capacity ink cartridges, printing will cost an average 19.9c per page, a price that is not overly expensive for such an exciting multifunction colour printer.
